Our educational objectives lie in helping students possess a good command of Spanish and nurturing them to become creative, contributing members of society who have a comprehensive understanding in the literature, culture, politics, economy and society of the 21 Spanish-speaking countries.

Spanish Language Build Spanish language competence in stages and increase the level of understanding of issues in Spanish linguistics

  • Conduct academic research on the evolution of the Spanish language, phonetic and syntactic structures of Spanish, and Spanish dialects
  • Strengthen practical competence as a Spanish speaker by learning how to translate, interpret and teach the Spanish language
Competence as Humanities Scholars Focusing on Spain
  • Nurture Spanish literature majors who have an understanding of Spanish literary works from the Middle Ages, Renaissance, and Golden Age to the modern period
  • Develop Spanish regional humanities scholars who have an in-depth understanding of various issues in Spanish history, ideology and culture
Competence as Humanities Scholars Focusing on Latin America
  • Cultivate Spanish literature majors who have an understanding of the major literary works from all of Latin America, encompassing Central America, the Caribbean, the Andes and South America, and who see through the history of Latin American literature, including pre-Colombian and colonial literature and the modernismo movement
  • Nurture Latin American regional humanities scholars who deeply understand various issues in Latin American history, ideology and culture
